Brooklands Avenue walking: shared footways and crowded junctions

Widely used as route to local schools and through route to Newnham and to CB1-Brookgate area. Both footways converted to shared use without improvements. We use red flags to signal where improvements are needed.

Brooklands Avenue is an area of conflict and near misses, with an increasing volume of footway traffic. Large numbers of local residents walk and wheel, taking children to and from homes, schools and nearby open spaces. Also well used route for cycling to work and by cargo bikes accessing schools. It suffers from poorly maintained footways. Overhanging trees create poor visibility and disrupt pavement surface. Pedestrians and cyclists need to be separated either by reallocating road space to create dedicated cycle path or by redesign of road as a whole.
